Prof. Zeng Yi Lectured on ”Tthe Future of the Super Artificial Intelligence and Robot”

On the afternoon of March 27, Prof. Zeng Yi from the Institute of Automation of CAS was invited to make a lecture about” the Future of the Super Artificial Intelligence and Robot”. Associate prof. Yan Yan hosted the lecture. Nearly one hundred students attended the lecture.

Prof. Zeng Yi briefly introduced the development of artificial intelligence through several famous cases "man-machine confrontation" in the history. He said there are several different stages of research and development of artificial intelligence. Whether "Deep Blue" beat chess champion Garry kasparov in 1997, or AlphaGo with a 4-1 beat south Korean chess player Li Shishi, both were the first stage of the artificial intelligence----- Artificial Narrow Intelligence, ANI. Winning in the "man-machine confrontation" mean the artificial intelligence is able to beat mankind in the specific areas of a single task. The higher phase of the study goal is that the artificial intelligence can solve different problems, become Artificial General Intelligence, AGI. Building a system with general ability, adaptive, self-learning ability and capable of working like human beings, which is robust super artificial intelligence---- Artificial Super Intelligence, ASI. It is completely beyond human beings capability. He further explained the essence of artificial intelligence. AI is to study how the human mind is realized in the physical world. Amazon industrial robot multimodal integration technology is a breakthrough. It is expected to gradually break the boundary of artificial intelligence. Their obtain perception, decision-making, planning and reasoning ability are very similar to the human beings.

Prof. Zeng also summarized the current world class brain intelligence related national projects and "the Chinese Brain" plan in planning of China’s 13th Five Year Plan.

Finally, Prof. Zeng said artificial intelligence is both an angel and a devil. It will not only bring to us the production reform and life convenience, but also a series of ethical questions. Human beings and robots have to seek a harmonious coexistence just as man and nature must live in harmony.
