Professor Torsten Persson Visited School of Management

The Secretary General of the Awards Committee of Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, Prof. Torsten Persson came to visit School of Management, UCAS on June 12nd. He gave a lecture on " Individual vs Social Motives in Choice: Theory and Evidence”, which is also the first lecture of Keyuan Economic and Management International Academic Forum.

 

This lecture was chaired by Professor Zhao Hong, the Vice Dean of School of Management. Before the start of the report, Prof. Zhaogong on behalf of the School, conferred the certificate of Advisor of Keyuan Economic and Management International Academic Forum for Professor Torsten Persson.

 

Professor Torsten made a deep analysis on the mechanism of the individual and the social motivation and the influence on the individual decision. The report focused on two specific issues. First, he focused on the ethnicity in China. He explained the influence that material benefits, identity costs and social norms have on individual decision-making behaviour. Second, he focused on the tax evasion in the UK. Through the research on Thatcher poll tax, he established a dynamic structural equation model and explain the mechanism of the interaction between individual motivation and social motivation.
