Prof. Lin Chen from University of HongKong Visited School of Management

The Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration of University of Hong Kong, Prof. Lin Chen visited School of Management, UCAS on the afternoon of June 26. During his visit, he also made a speech on "Competition and Bank Opacity”, which is also the second speech of the Keyuan Economic and Management International Academic Forum. Executive Dean of the school, Professor Wang Shouyang, Vice Dean, Professor Shi Yong, Professor Yang Haizhen, Professor Song Yinqiu and Professor Wu Desheng received the visit and attended the speech.

 

This report is chaired by Professor Wu Desheng. Basing on the perspective of Finance and accounting, Prof. Lin Chen made the empirical analysis on the deregulation of the banks in United States from 1980 to 1990 and finally built a bank level time series competitive pressure index. He made the conclusion that competition could enhance the transparency of the banks, and thus reduce the number of bank non-performing loans and the frequency of re-disclosure.

 

During the speech, the audiences and Professor Lin Chen had a lively discussion. Professor Wang Shouyang also made comment based on the status quo of China. The students benefited a lot through the speech and discussion.
