Dean Cheng Siwei Received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Economics

Dean Cheng Siwei received an honorary degree of Doctor of Economics from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) on Nov. 2nd.

 

As the former Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Professor Cheng is a key figure in the development of China's economy and international relationships. He believes that enhancing the citizens' purchasing power, improving the social security system, and encouraging constant innovations among enterprises will help China to boost the domestic consumption.

After the degree-awarding ceremony, Professor Cheng made a special lecture at Nottingham Business School on “Economic Prospects of the Global Economy: China, US and EU”.

 

Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, Professor Nigel Healey, said this honorary degree, is in recognition of Professor Cheng's significant contribution to China's economic transformation over the last twenty years, as well as his vision, his tenacity and his encouragement.

 

"We were especially honored that Professor Cheng gave a special lecture which allowed us a unique insider view into global economic issues and the roles that China, the US and Europe have to play."
