Research Center for Applied Economics

Research Center for Applied Economic was founded in 2001, and Professor Dong Jichang is the director of the center. The center now has eight professors, two associate professors, one assistant professor and five postdoctoral researchers, among whom two are members of Hundred Talents Program of CAS and two winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Meanwhile, the center has retained many well-known economists and management scientists as long-term consultants, such as Liu Yuanzhang, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the father of China Quality Management, and Chen Xikang, a well-known Chinese expert in Input-output Economics and a forecaster in Agricultural Economics. At present, several members of the center serve as chief editors or editorial board members in several Chinese or foreign core journals, including Energy Economics, Information and Management, Economic Systems Research and Management Review.

The center, as the academic and policy research arm of MSGUCAS, aims to realize complementary advantages through trans-institute and interdisciplinary attempts, to integrate superior forces of the center, and to develop close contact with the government and industrial sectors. It also aims to provide the central leadership and government decision-making departments with a scientific basis for making major policy decisions, and thereby contributes positively to China’s economy and society. Since its founding, the center has undertaken and completed a number of National Natural Science Foundation projects, National Social Science Fund projects, international cooperation research projects, projects commissioned by local governments and researches entrusted by large state-owned enterprises and leading enterprises. Many of the prominent research achievements reported to the central decision-making departments were directly responded by state leaders and have had significant influence on the national economy.

In addition to its outstanding original achievements in research, the center also teaches and trains the postgraduates and MBA students in Applied Economics, and thus to foster students’ creativity in academic thoughts. A great number of high-quality students with extensive theoretical and practical financial knowledge have graduated. Meanwhile, the center attaches great importance to international cooperation, and it has established close collaborative research relationships with a number of related research centers and scholars from a number of world-leading universities, such as the University of Chicago, New York State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Each year it also provides a large amount of research funding and scholarships for students to participate in various international economics and management research conferences and academic exchanges.

Research Center for Innovation and Strategic Management

Research Center for Innovation and Strategic Management incorporates CAS’s features and gives play to its advantage in S&T innovation. Founded by Professor Zhou Jizhong, Professor Liu Xielin is the present director. Currently there are six full-time professors, four part-time professors, two associate professors and two assistant professors in the center. It also has about twenty post-doctoral and post-graduate students.

The center aims to enrich the students’ knowledge of science and technology management, innovation management and strategic management in order to enhance student’s independent innovation ability. The center has undertaken a large number of key issues of National Natural Science Foundation and projects entrusted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, State Environmental Protection Department and Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission. Beyond that, the center also has a number of projects from both local and overseas enterprises.

It has academic exchanges with many well-known universities in the United States, Sweden, Belgium and India. The researchers also actively participated in many world-leading academic events and presented their important research findings. In addition, the center has developed cooperative research and training centers with some well-known enterprises such as Lenovo College. Over the years, the center has received a significant number of domestic awards, for example, the third prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the State Science and Technology Commission, First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education.

Research Center for Enterprise Management

Founded in 2001, Research Center for Enterprise Management has a strong academic strength with many well-known academic leaders. In the center, there are four full-time professors, three associate professors, four assistant professors, and a number of part-time professors and associate professors. Professor Zhao Hong is the director of the center.

The Center aims at carrying out research on enterprise management, fostering cooperation between School of Management, businesses and other relevant organizations, assisting School of Management with teachings on Enterprise Management postgraduates and MBA students, and enhancing cooperation with relevant research institutes. In the last few years, the center has actively conducted research and undertaken 22 major domestic and international research projects, 13 state-level projects, including Cooperative Training Mode of the Astronaut Group, a project sponsored by China’s Astronaut Selection and Training Center, Brain Science Basis of Emotional and Social Cognition, a project under the 973 Program sponsored by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and Stigma and Behavioral Health in Urban Employers from China and the USA, a major project sponsored by the NIMH, the results of which have received high attention from relevant state leaders and departments. In addition, the center has successively taken on six provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 13 projects entrusted by local governments and enterprises, published over 150 academic papers and obtained eight awards for scientific achievements. Besides, the center has also developed comprehensive cooperation with government bodies in terms of professional qualification, such as the IPMA-CP Qualification Test recommended by the UNESCO (IPMA, undertaken by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs), National Human Resource Manager Professional Qualification which is undertaken by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS), National Talent Evaluator Professional Qualification Test (undertaken by the Talent Exchange Center, MOHRSS), and National Employee Assistance Qualification Test.

Since its establishment, the center has staged many international and domestic academic events. It has organized “Business Management Frontier Forum” and  “Entrepreneur Lecture Series” for several times and has successfully invited academicians from both Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), management experts, government officials and famous entrepreneurs as key speakers. Moreover, it has launched international exchange and cooperation projects with numbers of universities and colleges, such as University of Groningen (Netherlands), Tulane University (US), Queensland University of Technology (Australia), Lingnan University (Hong Kong), Tamkang University (Taiwan), Seoul School of Integrated Sciences and Technologies (Korea), and established extensive exchange and cooperation platforms with local governments, businesses as well as noted partner universities and colleges both at home and abroad. Based on the needs of research and education, the center also works closely with several industry partners including Lenovo, China Hualu Group, Zhongya Software, Far East Holding Group, Datong Coal Mine Group, Kailuan Group and China Unicom. Additionally, the center also jointly holds the “Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu Science and Technology Forum” with the governments of Beijing Haidian district and Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone.
