Professor Zhao Hong visited the University of Groningen in the Netherlands from May 23 to 25, 2019. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on the three-degree and dual-doctoral cooperation programs, which aim to provide students with a high-level, international academic arena and to foster future academics.
Prof. Peter C. Verhoef, Dean of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Groningen, warmly hosted Professor Zhao on May 23 at the Peters House and held informal talks on program cooperation. Prof. Zhao and Prof. Rian Drogendijk, Director of Graduate Learning Department, and Ms. Rina Koning, Executive Director of Graduate School, Groningen University, officially reviewed the development of the program and employment of the students since the cooperation in 2006. As far, there are 26 students from UCAS participating in the program. The majority of students have successfully entered the top domestic universities and have outstanding performance. Some of them have obtained faculty or postdoctoral studies abroad. Both sides believe that the program is progressing smoothly and has achieved excellent results. The two sides expressed their confidence in the future development of the program and actively explored how to better publicize and promote the program.
In the Netherlands, Prof. Zhao also participated in the graduation defense of UCAS and the University of Groningen. The members of the defense committee affirmed and highly praised Liu Huan’s research, academic ability and speculative ability. Liu Huan is just one student example of a double doctor program. The three-degree and double-doctoral programs of UCAS have already trained many outstanding researchers.
After the defense, Prof. Zhao, on behalf of the School of Economics and Management, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, talked with the students from UCAS that are studying at the University of Groningen. Prof. Zhao and the students conducted exchanges on learning, life, and thoughts. Prof. Zhao also expressed concern and high expectations to the students and praised for everyone's efforts and achievements.
