Professor Donald Huisingh of the University of Tennessee Visited SEM and Gave a Lecture

On the afternoon of June 20, 2019, the international academic forum of “Science Park” of School of Economics and Management, Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Zhongguancun campus. Professor Donald Huisin from the University of Tennessee was invited to give a wonderful academic lecture entitled "Learning How to Plan, Write, Revise, and Publish Top Quality Papers in High Impact Journals" to the faculty and students.

 

Professor Donald Huisingh graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison and obtained his Ph.D. degree. Now he is a professor of the University of Tennessee. He is well-known in the field of clean production and sustainable development. He has a lot of research in the fields of sustainable development as well as urban and industrial economics. He is the founder and the editor in chief of the top journal in clean production field JOURNAL OF CLEANER PRODUCTION. He is now honorary editor in chief of the journal for life. He has been engaged in industrial ecology research and teaching for more than 40 years, and has published more than 350 related papers.

 

Professor Huisingh first started from the depiction of human ancestors on the stone wall, pointed out that the paper is a way to share one’s ideas with others, and summarized the characteristics of academic articles that are generally favored by journals. After that, Professor Huisingh, combined his own experience, introduced research significance, article wording, reader oriented categories, target journals, types of published articles and other issues critical to academic writing. Professor, Taking the structure of an article as an example, Professor Huisingh explained in detail the title, text, references and supplementary materials of one article, and comprehensively introduced how to write an excellent academic paper. At the same time, Professor Huisingh emphasized the importance of language description in academic papers, summaring the main points into three aspects: "clear, concise and correct", and pointed out some problems that should be avoided. In addition, Professor Huisingh also put forward some other technical suggestions, including the format and length of the article, the verification of the article, as well as the precautions of the submission letter, etc. At last, Professor Huisingh explained how to modify the academic paper according to the modification opinions.
