SEM Hosted 2022 Econometric Society Asian Summer School

2022 Econometric Society Asian Summer School,jointly sponsored by School of Economics and Management, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science and Center for Forecasting Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-organized by Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics, Xiamen University and Dongbei University of Finance & Economics, was held online on July 18.

 




 SEM successfully hosted the Econometric Society Asian Summer School last year. This year is the second time for her to host the Summer School, which attracted over 200 young teachers and students from more than 80 universities at home and abroad. The summer school lasted for six days, starting from July 18 and ending on July 23. Professor Jiti Gao of Monash University, Professor Oliver Linton of Cambridge University, Professor Liangjun Su of Tsinghua University, Professor Amos Golan of American University, Professor Jun Yu of Singapore Management University, Professor Shouyang Wang and Professor Yongmiao Hong of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences were invited to give lectures and to share the latest international cutting-edge research in econometrics and statistics.

 

At the closing ceremony, Professor Yongmiao Hong reviewed the history of Econometric Society Asian Summer School, hoping that participants could really learn something from the 6-day course. He thanked all the attendees for their active participation, thanked all the lectures for their wonderful courses, thanked the organizing committee, the administrative team and the volunteers for their hard work, and hoped to have face-to-face exchanges with everyone at the summer school next year.

 

 

Professor Yingfei Qi, Vice President of Dongbei University of Finance & Economics, attended the graduation ceremony. He congratulated the on the successful closing of the summer school, and hoped that everyone would gain and progress academically in the future. He also expressed his hope for the students to come to Dongbei University of Finance & Economics for academic exchanges in the future.

 

 

James Philip Martin, who has just completed his doctoral studies at the National University of Singapore, made a speech as the representative of the participants. James said that he had a better understanding of the cutting-edge research in the field of econometrics through this summer school study. China has a good environment for econometrics research, and has outstanding econometricians. He hopes to have the opportunity to come to China for research.

 

 

Another student representative, Meiting Zhu, a doctoral candidate from Xiamen University, shared her learning experience and hoped to have face-to-face communication next year. While attending the course, Meiting Zhu also worked as a volunteer. She expressed sincere thanks to all the staff who worked hard for the Summer School.
