SEM Organized a Forum on Research Requirements for Graduate Students

SEM organized a forum on research requirements for graduate students on August 27, 2022. Nearly 300 students attended the meeting online or on site.

Dean Hong Yongmiao pointed out that SEM had carried out an all-round reform in education including curriculum system, academic seminars, and thesis defense in the past year. At present, more emphases have been putting on learning of basic theories, professional knowledge and quantitative methods. Furthermore, more attention has been paid to improving students' abilities to combine theory with practice, and abilities to analyze and solve problems. At the same time, process management has been strengthened and students are required to complete the dissertation in strict accordance with the time arrangement. Dean Hong also encouraged the students to be strict with themselves and improve the quality of papers, actively participate in academic seminars to improve their vision, and improve the ability in expressing themselves.

Associate Professor Liu Ying made a detailed introduction to the new regulations on the requirements for defense qualification. New regulations are revised after many rounds of discussions. More standards for the quality of the papers, the evaluation system, recognition criteria for academic monographs, patents, awards etc. are added to the regulations. Students are encouraged to publish papers in top domestic and international journals, top academic conferences, and so on. In addition, they are encouraged to engage in original theoretical research and practical research with important social and economic impact.

Finally, Executive Dean Li Jianping made a closing remark, encouraging students to study hard and keep pace with the times.
