On Dec. 29, Fu Shouqing, the deputy head of Haidian District of Beijing came to School of Management and brought a lecture to our students. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Wang Shouyang, the executive dean of School of Management.
Fu Shouqing came to study for his master’s degree in CAS in 1988 and worked at Haidian District government since graduation. His lecture for the day was Zhongguancun and Talent Development.
Fu Shouqing was very excited to return to class of CAS after so many years. He said that CAS once held a decisive position in the history of Zhongguancun. It was here that Liu Chuanzhi established his empire of Lenovo years ago. From a street that sold electronic products in 1983, Zhongguancun is now a flag of the scientific and technological development of Beijing.
Fu Shouqing at the Lecture
Fu Shouqing mainly described Zhongguancun in four aspects, the overview of the development of Zhongguancun, the talent development of Zhongguancun, Zhongguancun and Silicon Valley, and the future of Zhongguancun. Fu Shouqing reviewed those names familiar to people, such as Liu Chuanzhi, Zhang Chaoyang, Li Kaifu, Li Hongyan and so on and he said that those people’s success drove the common people to start business in Zhongguancun and therefore expanded the impact of Zhongguancun. Fu Shouqing also compared the similarities and differences of Zhongguancun with Silicon Valley and pointed out that the main way for Zhongguancun to be successful is not to copy Silicon Valley, but to set up links with it in technology, capital, talents, information and industry chain.
As for the future development of Zhongguancun, Fu Shouqing said, the government had made plans to make it an innovation center with worldwide influence by 2020.
Finally, Fu Shouqing encouraged the students to start their businesses and be successful. He said, Zhongguancun is a place where one can dream. If we assimilate Zhongguancun to a system, we input dreams, output thoughts and realize ideals.
