Famous economist Hong Yongmiao came to School of Management to instruct the young teachers and doctoral students how to do first-class academic research on Jan. 15.
With his own experience as example, Prof. Hong Yongmiao told the audience how to set up a solid knowledge base, how to select important problems, how to make research plans, and how to make original innovations in theories and methods. Apart from the above-mentioned, Prof. Hong also raised several research questions on Econometrics for the audience to answer. He hoped that the young teachers and doctoral students in School of Management would do something in the field of Econometrics and Policy Analysis to lead world academic development.
Authorized by Dean Cheng Siwei, Prof. Wang Shouyang, the Executive Dean of School of Management conferred the certificate of honorary professor to Hong Yongmiao, and Prof. Hong Yongmiao said that he would try his best to contribute to the development of School of Management.

Prof. Hong got his Ph.D. in the University of California, San Diego in 1993, and is now Professor of Economics and Statistics in Cornell University. Prof. Hong’s research fields include: econometric theory, financial econometrics, economics of China. His papers have been published in top journals in Economics, Finance, and Statistics, such as Biometrika, Econometrica, Econometric Theory, Journal of American Statistical Association, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Royal Statistical Society Series B, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Review of Financial Studies. He is also the winner of Tjalling C. Koopmans Econometrics Award (2006) and Econometric Theory Econometrics Multa Scripsit Award (2012).
