Dr. V. Setty Pendakur, the renowned professor and senior advisor to the State Council of China, brought a wonderful lecture to students at School of Management on the afternoon of March 11. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Zhao Hong, Vice Dean of School of Management.
Prof. Pendakur’s lecture was entitled Alibaba-a global giant:how and why?He took the development of Alibaba as an example, explained how to realize global operation and how to build brands. Meanwhile, he analyzed current situations and problems existing in China and opened a brand-new angle of view for the audience. Finally, Prof. Pendakur shared his stories and experiences with the audience.
After the lecture, the audience raised a lot of questions and interacted warmly with Prof. Pendakur.

Professor V. Setty Pendakur, Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia, is an alumnus of the University of Washington, receiving his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering and Public Policy in 1964.
He has served in the private sector as well as the public sector and taught Transportation Planning and Public Policy at the University of British Columbia for 31 years. Then he started his new life as President of Pacific Policy and Planning Associates, a boutique firm specializing in policy development in developing countries, more particularly in Asia.
Professor Pendakur is an active participant in professional organizations and has served on many committees of the Transportation Research Board. He is the Founding Chair of TRB Committee on Transportation in the Developing Countries and its current Secretary. He has published more than 100 papers in refereed journals over his academic career.
He is currently an Honorary Professor at UCAS and he is a Senior Counselor to the State Council of the PRC and to the Government of Singapore. His advisory work focuses on infrastructure and urban policy, national strategies for economic development, which includes sustainable policies for environment and human development.
