Dean Cheng Siwei made a special report in Harbin on Aug. 4. The report was entitled “Let Economy Benefit People’s Livelihood”.
In the report, Cheng Siwei said that the ultimate objective of economic development is to enrich the nation and the people. As for improving the livelihood of people, Cheng Siwei has two views. One is to understand the relationship between enriching the nation and enriching the people. Only when the nation is powerful, will the people be rich. The other is to realize there will be a long way to go before we can enrich the nation and the people.
How to make economic development benefit the people? Cheng Siwei thinks that we should go ahead in four aspects. First, create more social wealth and improve people’s income. Second, improve the social welfare system, and try to be moderate, fair and effective. Third, safeguard people’s lives, wealth, and health, and maintain the order of the society. Fourth, improve people’s education level and their creativity.
