Prof Wu Desheng Lectured on the 15th China Youth Economists Forum

The 15th China Youth Economists Forum opened at Xiamen University in July 18. The forum was jointly sponsored by Economic Research Journal, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, Institute For Advanced Study Wuhan University, and WISE. It aimed at promoting research on China’s economic problems, reinforcing communication among youth economists, and serving for China’s economic development and reform.

 

Prof. Wu Desheng  made a keynote speech on the forum at the invitation. His speech was entitiled “Forum Sentiment and Stock Price Volatility”. In his speech, Prof. Wu told the stories of invalidity of the classical Expected Utility Theory in the mature market, stated the necessity of using Internet financial information, especially the market sentiment information. In his research, Prof. Wu collected Multi-source heterogeneous data and got sentiment index by using sentiment analysing technology, and researched its relativity with the stock market, and analyse the risk of the financial market using applied econometrics, behavioural finance and data mining. The method used by Prof. Wu was named “W-O ERM Model” by the peer researchers.
